Honey & Smoke

When we think of where to eat in Ubud, Honey & Smoke is the first restaurant that comes to mind. We love trying several dishes, and their entire concept revolves around shared dining. Every dish we tried here was exceptional, and the presentation was simply stunning too. While you really can’t go wrong with anything on the menu, we especially recommend the grilled scallops. They were incredible! The burrata, tempura zucchini flowers, and grilled prawns were also amazing. Those are definitely our top picks at Honey & Smoke.

If you’re looking for cocktail recommendations, we suggest trying the Yuzu on Passion if you’re into sweeter drinks, while the Norihana Smoke is an experience in itself. But we won’t spoil the surprise – you just have to try it!

It’s worth noting that Honey & Smoke is on the pricier side. We celebrated Thysia’s aunt’s birthday here, and it felt like the perfect spot for a special occasion. If you’re looking for a romantic dinner or a place to celebrate something special, Honey & Smoke is definitely the place to go.

2. This Is Bali

This Is Bali

One of the best lunch spots in Ubud has to be This Is Bali. This place is known for its delicious bowls, allowing you to either customize your own or choose from their tasty signature options. We really loved the fun twist on ordering, you can use a little card and stamps to create your own perfect bowl. Such a unique experience!

We ended up coming here twice because everything we tried was fantastic. The teriyaki tempeh mango bowl is a must-try for vegetarians, while the beef rendang bowl is perfect for meat lovers. Make sure to try their desserts as well, especially the passion fruit panna cotta and coconut brownie. Even if you’re not usually a dessert person (like us), these treats are too good to pass up!

3. In Da Compound Warung

Where to eat in Ubud: In Da Compound Warung

For delicious and affordable Indonesian food, In Da Compound Warung is our go-to spot in Ubud. We’ve tried nasi goreng all over Indonesia, but the one here is hands down the best we’ve had. Their nasi campur is outstanding too, and if you’re vegetarian or vegan, you’ll be happy to know they have plenty of options for you.

What we love most, besides the amazing taste, is how affordable it is. Most dishes are between € 2 and € 4, which is a great deal for such delicious food. If you’re looking for where to eat in Ubud, this place is a must-visit for authentic, tasty, and affordable Indonesian dishes.

4. Warung Makan Bu Rus

Another great local spot is Warung Makan Bu Rus, conveniently located near Ubud Palace. The food here is simple but delicious, with affordable prices. We highly recommend the nasi goreng ayam special, which comes with flavorful chicken satay and tempeh. Although we preferred the food at In Da Compound Warung, we liked the setting at Warung Makan Bu Rus better. The garden setting is absolutely lovely!

5. Meme’s Kitchen

Where to eat in Ubud: Meme’s Kitchen

Meme’s Kitchen is a great spot in Ubud for both Indonesian and international dishes. We tried their nasi goreng and mie goreng, and while both were tasty, our favorite was the mie goreng. The peanut sauce that came with the chicken satay was so amazing! With its affordable prices, Meme’s Kitchen is perfect for a relaxed lunch or dinner. We also loved that it’s tucked away from the busy main street so that you can have a more peaceful dining experience.

6. The Shed Bali

The Shed Bali is a beautiful restaurant with great food and views. We visited for both breakfast and dinner, and loved both moments! Their smashed avocado kale toast for breakfast was one of the best we’ve ever had. Trust us, Thysia knows her avocado toasts! For dinner, you can’t go wrong with the black pepper beef or the vegetarian fried rice. Make sure to try the chicken satay as well, it was so good we regretted only ordering one plate to share. Though it’s a bit pricier, the quality and setting make it worth it.

7. Terracotta

Lunch with a view over the rice fields? Terracotta is the place to go! This beautiful restaurant, part of the MATHIS Retreat Ubud, offers stunning views of the rice fields. We visited twice, once for breakfast and once for lunch, and loved every moment. We even had a pool day here one day! Both times, the restaurant was wonderfully quiet, just what we needed for a serene dining experience. The food is so delicious, by the way. You can’t miss out on the soto ayam, it was the best we had during our time in Indonesia. The risotto ai frutti di mare was fantastic, too. Their cocktails with arak are also worth trying! Just keep in mind that this spot is on the pricier side compared to local places.

8. Chotto Motto Ramen

Where to eat in Ubud: Chotto Motto Ramen

If you’re looking for something other than Indonesian food, Chotto Motto Ramen is the perfect spot. We enjoyed some seriously delicious ramen here! Their menu is straightforward with just four types of ramen to choose from (including a vegan option), plus a selection of toppings.

The restaurant is cozy with limited seating, but the kitchen operates quickly which means you won’t have to wait long for your meal. We’ve tried all four types of ramen, and they’re all so good! The best of the bunch is probably the Tonkotsu Ramen. It has a creamy broth made of pork and chicken, and comes with some super tender pieces of chashu pork.

9. Amsterdam

Where to eat in Ubud: Amsterdam
Amsterdam

Our favorite brunch spot in Ubud is undoubtedly Amsterdam. If you’ve read our Gili Air guide, you might remember us mentioning Kopi Susu as one of the best places to eat there. Amsterdam offers a similar concept, letting you create your own brunch by picking 3 or 5 items from their menu. We especially loved the mini burgers – they were so delicious that we ended up ordering one separately after our meal. The smoked salmon and sauteed mushrooms were also fantastic. But whatever you decide to order, we know it’ll be really good. 😉

Amsterdam is open every day from 7 AM to 5 PM. A set of 5 items costs 99,000 IDR and 3 items 69,000 IDR, with a 10% tax and 5% service charge added.

Still wondering where to eat in Ubud? Check out Uma Cucina, our favorite Italian restaurant in Bali. Their pastas are amazing, we’re still dreaming about the ravioli with butternut and goat cheese. We also tried the linguine Gamberi with prawns, the black ink risotto with squid, and the bucatini ragu, and each dish was perfect. The arancini makes for a great starter, too! The staff are very friendly and fun to joke around with, and the interior of the restaurant is pretty nice  as well.

Pro tip
If you visit for lunch, be sure to ask about their lunch deals! They don’t automatically give out the menu with specials, but if you ask, you can enjoy a variety of starters and cocktail deals at a much better price.

11. Baba Bistro

Baba Bistro is a fantastic spot for Mediterranean and Middle Eastern dishes right in the heart of Ubud. With a menu that includes everything from burgers and pizzas to tacos and salads, there’s something for everyone. We really loved their tacos, especially the chickenless taco and pulled pork taco. If you’re dining in the evening, be sure to snag a seat on their cozy rooftop for a great atmosphere!

Pro tip
Baba Bistro also has some great deals that you shouldn’t miss. On Mondays, you can enjoy pizza and beer for just 85,000 IDR. Tuesdays offer a great taco deal with 3 tacos for 90,000 IDR, while Sundays feature steak and wine for 300,000 IDR. Plus, there’s happy hour every day from 1 to 5 PM, where you get 2 cocktails for the price of 1.

12. Taman Dedari

Taman Dedari

Taman Dedari, famous for its iconic angel statues, is one of the most popular spots in Ubud. We stopped by for a quick bite and were pleasantly surprised by how tasty the food was! The spring rolls and margarita pizza were both delicious. Although we only ordered these dishes, they were impressive enough to recommend the place for a casual meal and some Instagram-worthy photos. It can get quite crowded here, there was even a wedding shoot happening when we visited. That being said, the place is huge so you probably will find some place to sit. We were very happy we visited and definitely enjoyed our time there!

13. Zest

Where to eat in Ubud: Zest

Zest is a vegan restaurant with an incredible atmosphere, no wonder it became one of our favorite spots in no time. It’s always buzzing with people, but it just makes the place feel even more cozy. Even if you’re not usually into vegan food, we think you’ll find something to love here. We especially loved their refreshing lemonades and the crispy baby potatoes with chipotle mayo – they were seriously delicious. It’s definitely a busy hotspot, but one you shouldn’t miss when in Ubud!

14. Sayan Point

Where to eat in Ubud: Sayan Point
Sayan Point

We want to end this list with Sayan Point. While the food wasn’t the highlight of our Bali trip, the sunset views make it worth a visit. Yes, the food might be a bit overpriced and the wait can be long, but the view is truly breathtaking. The food is decent but not extraordinary, so we suggest coming here for drinks and enjoying the scenery. Just be sure to arrive before sunset for the best seats, as this spot gets quite crowded. We’ve visited Sayan Point a couple of times, each sunset view was better than the one before!

Good to know
You might be asked to spend a certain amount here. We visited on multiple occasions, sometimes they told us there was a minimum spend and other times there wasn’t.
