Sleeping among rice fields at Rice Rice Villas is definitely one of our most unique experiences in Sri Lanka. With its charming huts nestled amid swaying palms and lush greenery, Rice Rice Villas offers an idyllic escape like no other. Let us take you on a journey through our unforgettable stay at Rice Rice Villas, a slice of paradise you’ll never want to leave.
Rice Rice Villas
Rice Rice Villas, nestled between lush greenery and expansive rice fields, is a unique accommodation located in Tissamaharama. Each cozy hut-style room features its own private patio. This is perfect for enjoying evening conversations or birdwatching amidst the surrounding palm trees. The highlight of Rice Rice Villas is definitely its inviting pool, offering breathtaking views of the endless rice fields. Whether you’re basking in the sun or leisurely reading a book, the pool provides a calming setting to unwind after a day of exploration. It really gave us that amazing “infinity pool” feeling, too. 🤩
Superior room
Our hut was simple yet spacious and clean, just what we needed for a comfortable stay. The bed was generously sized and came with a mosquito net and air conditioning. This came in quite handy as the weather was really warm! One of the highlights was the private patio next to our hut. It was so nice to chat in the evening in the middle of nature! It’s small details like this that really enriched our stay and made it so much better.
We really enjoyed the “semi-outdoor” bathroom concept as well. Although it’s enclosed, there’s an opening that lets in the soothing jungle ambiance while showering. Think: birds chirping and monkeys climbing trees. It was a unique experience that we absolutely loved! Despite the presence of hot water, we must admit that the shower’s water pressure was a bit lacking – a common occurrence in Sri Lanka. Additionally, the WiFi didn’t really work during our stay, and we had poor mobile coverage. Thankfully, we spent most of our time by the pool. The lack of connectivity didn’t bother us much. When we think about it, being disconnected and away from everything and everyone made our stay even better! It’s just what we needed.
Last but not least, breakfast! The hotel owner was also the cook, and he provided us with a really amazing breakfast. Yes, it was quite simple, but everything on our plate was just super delicious. In addition to the usual suspects like eggs, toast, and jam, we really liked the homemade fruit salad! Normally you’d get just one banana or some pieces of pineapple, but at Rice Rice Villas you get spoiled with all sorts of fruit! Add to that an amazing pot of tea, and we are sold.
Our thoughts on Rice Rice Villas
Rice Rice Villas serves as an ideal starting point for exploring Yala National Park, conveniently located just a half-hour drive away. While Rice Rice Villas may feel a bit remote, the owner ensures you won’t go to bed hungry by preparing delicious meals onsite. It is not the hut itself that has stayed with us, but mostly the picturesque surroundings! Who doesn’t want to wake up among palm trees and rice fields? We paid € 44 per night for our two-night stay, making it one of our pricier accommodations in Sri Lanka, but considering the unique experience, we think it’s worth it.
Last but not least: the accommodation organizes safaris to Yala National Park, offering half-day tours at around 20000 LKR (€ 60) per person. This is a very reasonable price, especially for the experience you get in return!
