Koh Lipe

One-day guide to Koh Lipe

Koh Lipe is a hidden paradise in southern Thailand, near Malaysia. It’s not the easiest place to reach, which is why many miss out on it. But during our two-night stay on Koh Lipe, we fell in love with this stunning island. Picture-perfect beaches, all within walking distance on this small island, making it perfect for a day of beach hopping and relaxation. Our one-day guide to Koh Lipe will make you want to add it to your travel dreams!

Sunrise at Sunrise Beach

One-day guide to Koh Lipe: Sunrise Beach

Start your day with a beautiful sunrise at Sunrise Beach. Arrive early, about half an hour before sunrise, to catch the sky changing colors. The perfect way to start your day! Pro tip: check the tides the night before so you know when exactly you should be there. We find the beach and sea most beautiful during (or leading up to) high tide, so try to aim for that. Of course, seeing the sun rise is most important for all the different colors.

Good to know
We used Google Maps to find our way to Sunrise Beach. We had to walk through a resort that had a sign saying it was only for guests. Because it was still early in the day, we could walk through without any issues. Just a tip: if you visit later in the day, you might need to take a different route!

Relax at Sanom Beach

Sanom Beach, Koh Lipe

Sanom Beach is one of our favorite beaches in all of Thailand. It’s hidden and feels like a little adventure to discover, which we really love! It’s about a 30-minute walk from Sunrise Beach to get there. First, go to Pattaya Beach, and then walk all the way to the end until you spot a wooden bridge. If you can’t find it, it’s near some palm trees and rocks. Cross the bridge and follow the path until you reach this gem. You’ll pass a resort on the way, this is the sign that you’re almost there.

Settle into their comfy bean bags for a day of sunbathing, swimming, and snorkeling in the crystal-clear waters. The soft white sand completes the perfect secluded beach experience, literally unreal. Oh and by the way, the beach bar serves the best fruit plate we’ve had in Thailand. This reason alone makes the beach bar on Sanom Beach the perfect breakfast spot

!If you’re looking for a hotel recommendation near Sanom Beach, look no further than Sanom Beach Resort Adults Only. It’s the perfect combination of luxury and relaxation, ideal for a romantic stay with your loved one. Plus, you’re as close to Sanom Beach as you possibly can!

Good to know
We had to pay € 10 for both of us to use the bean bags.

Lunch at Elephant

Elephant

Elephant, the top lunch spot on Koh Lipe, is around a 20-minute walk from Sanom Beach. You can find it on Walking Street, where there are many charming shops and restaurants. The food at Elephant is so good, we couldn’t resist coming back over and over again! Everything we tried there was full of flavor and really tasty. Their menu has a lot of options, from all day brunch to fresh bowls, and even pastries or sweet treats. Yes, everything on it sounds and looks just so great. If we can make a recommendation: try their buffalo chicken wrap! We still think about it every day, not even a lie. It’s worth visiting Koh Lipe just for this wrap! They also serve some pretty good and affordable cocktails here, just saying. 😉

Chill at Pattaya Beach

Pattaya Beach

After lunch, it’s beach time again, so head to Pattaya Beach. You already saw it this morning, so you know how beautiful it is. It’s only a short walk from Elephant, no need to go hiking! This beach is the island’s main hub, and it’s just stunning. With plenty of bars, restaurants, and resorts, it can get busy. Don’t worry though! Since it’s a pretty long beach,  you’ll definitely find your perfect spot. Do know that when it is high tide, almost all of the sand will be covered by the sea, leaving only a small strip of beach. Super cool!

Sunset at Sunset Beach

One-day guide to Koh Lipe: Sunset Beach

A short 15-minute walk leads you to Sunset Beach, perfect for catching the sunset. While it may not be the best for sunbathing like the other beaches, it offers an incredible sunset view! Pick up some drinks along the way and enjoy a romantic evening watching the sunset. We brought our own drinks from 7-Eleven on the Walking Street, but there are a handful of bars on Sunset Beach where you can buy drinks if need be.

Dinner with a view at Castaway Restaurant

Castaway Restaurant

End your day with an amazing dinner overlooking the sea at Castaway Restaurant, just a 20-minute walk from Sunset Beach. We absolutely loved this place! It’s cozy, has amazing views, and the food is really delicious. They offer a range of Thai dishes, salads, and lots of vegetarian options, so there’s something for everyone to enjoy. This place is bustling no matter what time you visit, but so so worth it!
