Every now and then, we stumble upon something truly extraordinary. A Table is the perfect example of this. This charming restaurant, located in the heart of Axel, is known for its exceptional cuisine, warm atmosphere, and top-notch service. We came here for the first time in March 2023 to celebrate Thysia’s mom’s birthday. Meanwhile, it has become one of our favorite restaurants when we have something to celebrate! Restaurant A Table
A Table is a gem in the heart of Axel. The first thing we noticed was the warm and intimate setting. The menu is very extensive, you can choose the fixed menu (4, 5 or 6 courses) or you can order dishes à la carte. We always order the 6-course menu and we recommend you to do the same. A Table combines surprising flavors, giving you a wow feeling with every course. Each dish is unique and presented in an original and creative way, and tastes as good as it looks!
Before the 6-course menu actually begins, you already get some creative appetizers to start off just right. From arancini with paella and crayfish to gingerbread combined with shrimp, every appetizer we have tasted here was a true flavor bomb and created high expectations for the rest of the evening. For cocktails, we always order a Pornstar Martini. It comes with a nice shot of sparkling wine (as it should 😉). Always a great start to an unforgettable evening!
Spectacular 6-course menu
After the appetizers, it’s time for the 6-course menu. Since we have dined here several times, it is difficult to discuss every single dish of each 6-course menu. Below you can find 2 menus that we personally tested, and we’ll discuss our three favorite dishes from these menus. But honestly, we can say that we never tasted a bad or even sub-par dish at A Table!

Our favorite dishes (so far)
We can both agree that our absolute favorite was undoubtedly the mackerel with papaya and sambal mayonnaise. This was truly one of the most delicious dishes we have ever tasted yet! Slightly spicy and lots of flavor, just how we like it. We liked it so much that we even asked for the recipe (spoiler alert: they didn’t give it to us 😞). We’d come back for this dish only!
The sea bass with puffed peppers, sobrasada (a Spanish sausage), and black olive was definitely one of our favorites as well. Everything went so well together, the combination of sea bass with sobrasada was just perfect! The only downside of this dish was that there wasn’t enough, we could have eaten a second serving in no time. 😉
Last but not least: the tortilla with goat and kimchi. This was the dish that surprised us the most. Kelvin had never eaten goat before, and had no idea it was so tasty! Combined with kimchi, this was a real flavor bomb. It was so surprising to see all those ingredients combined, but the final result was super yummy. Since Thysia doesn’t like meat, the chef made a version with scampi instead of goat. This dish was also delicious!
Our thoughts on A Table
One thing is certain: the chefs know what they’re doing! Every single dish is perfectly prepared and beautifully presented. What we also really like is that they combine ingredients that we ourselves would never combine, and it all works out. 😍 The service is also exceptional. The staff is super friendly and attentive, making sure everything is to your liking. We definitely recommend A Table when you have something special to celebrate or fancy a spectacular dining experience!
