The most charming bars in Rome

A drink is the perfect way to end a day full of sightseeing. You can find countless bars in Rome, so it’s difficult to pick the right one to end your day. Whether you prefer to enjoy the sunset at a rooftop bar or an exclusive speakeasy with drinks tailored to your own preferences, we tested out a lot of bars and made a selection of the most charming bars in Rome!

1. Otivm Roof Bar

Otivm Roof Bar is our favorite rooftop bar in Rome, and not only for their amazing cocktails! It was within walking distance from our hotel, close to Piazza Venezia (like a 5 min walk). The rooftop has a spacious terrace with a great view of the Victor Emmanuel II Monument. They offer tasty cocktails here, the prices are slightly more expensive than average, but really good. Every drink comes with some snacks like olives and chips, which was awesome!

The staff is also super friendly, when we came here one evening Thysia forgot her sunglasses. The day after we contacted the hotel, who told us they would let us know if they found anything when the rooftop bar opens. 15 minutes before opening time, they called to say they had found our sunglasses! So we returned here the day after, for the sunglasses and for another round of cocktails, of course. If you are looking for a rooftop bar with stunning views of Rome where you can enjoy a nice cocktail without too many people, you should definitely stop by at Otivm Roof Bar.

2. Terrazza Les Étoiles

Another amazing rooftop bar you should visit when in Rome, is Terrazza Les Étoiles. Just like with Otivm, you have insane views of Rome. You can spot Castel Sant’Angelo and St. Peter’s Basilica from pretty nearby, among other monuments. There are two floors, be sure to take a look on the top floor too! The views here are even more magnificent. They have a range of (sparkling) wines, but also have an extensive cocktails menu. We had a few glasses of rosé champagne and a glass of rosé wine, since we came in the morning we couldn’t order cocktails yet. The wines were really delicious and a perfect start to the day. They do also offer food here, just keep in mind that it is quite expensive (for the drinks as well).

3. Jerry Thomas Speakeasy

If you’re a frequent reader of our blog, it probably hasn’t escaped your notice that we love speakeasies. During every trip that we do we try to plan a visit to a speakeasy. In Rome, we visited the Jerry Thomas Speakeasy. We had read several positive things about this speakeasy, so we booked a month in advance to be sure of a spot. Upon confirmation of our reservation, we were given a password via email to provide when entering. This contributed to the exclusive experience, when we went in we heard people say they did not have a reservation but knew the password, but they unfortunately had to wait to see if there were some seats available for people without reservation.

The bar itself is very intimate, you are assigned a table and a personal waiter, who (in our case) reeeallly loved his job. All around you see bottles of liquor of all kinds of brands (and prices!). We drank two cocktails each here, our waiter recommended certain cocktails based on our preferences (like sweet, fruity, etc.). They were all very tasty, thumbs up for our waiter and his recommendations! Jerry Thomas Speakeasy is definitely one of the best bars in Rome.

Good to know
If you come here for the first time, you have to buy some kind of membership card for € 5 per person. This is valid for one year, note that if you come here in September (like us), it is only valid until December 31st.

4. Comodo Mercato Trevi

On our last day we happened to come across Comodo Mercato Trevi. This is a sort of indoor food market with different open kitchens. You can really get everything here: sushi as well as pizza and charcuterie. At the very back there is also a cocktail bar. Since we had just eaten we each chose a cocktail, these were so tasty! The food also looked really good, if it had not been our last day we would definitely return to try some dishes here as you could probably spend an entire afternoon and evening here. Also, the interior is really beautiful! Even the restrooms are nicely decorated, so be sure to take a look there as well.
